The Children
There are a number of new children, ranging in age from 3 to 18 years. Many of them have been abused, and are being provided psychological care.
One of our 4 year olds is "very smart and pretty", and Sylvia Laborin, the Director of Dorcas House, thinks that she will be adopted soon.
A family of four children, whose father is in prison and whose mother is overwhelmed, stay at the House during the week and go to school, then go home on the weekends.
Three younger siblings are back with their parents, are happy and call the House every week.
Three more are in school, and will go to their parents when their mother leaves prison in November.
One of our older girls is working, but is definitely going to University in 2009. She has learned that working in a maquilladora is not much fun, and is eager to pursue her education. Another has decided not to go on for more schooling, and is working. Three siblings are all in school, though two of them are living with their Godmother. One of them plans to live at Dorcas House through High School. Gabriela (see video "Dance Gabriela") and another older girl are pursuing their studies.
Some of the children in the neighborhood get lunch and tutoring at Dorcas House.
And there are many more stories to be told about our children in Dorcas House, some inspirational, some not so pretty. They need all the love and attention that we can give them. They are great kids, and we appreciate all the ways in which you help them.
